Belgian Chocolate

I learn alot of thing from a chocolate tour in Brussels today.

For the people here, chocolate is their passion. Classic, authentic and finest quality of Belgian Chocolate is the key of their success!!

I can totally understand the anger of our tour guide when she saw some souvenir shops putting up a sign board of

"9.90 Euro for 6 boxes of Belgian Chocolate"

and she said "They is no miracle in chocolate, you are paying for the amount of quality you are buying"

you can buy it ofcoz! but i dont guarantee you what is that, i dont know where it come from~

i can sense that she really not feeling good with that. obviously she is angry that this kind of souvenir shop is ruining the reputation of Belgian Chocolate! Coz to Belgian people, they are so proud of their chocolate and the name shouldn't be affected by these thing~

So, how specific and strictly they treat to their chocolate? for an example, Godiva Chocolate.

One of a guy joining the tour is from The United States. He shake his head when the guide talks about Godiva and he said : "i dont like it"

and guess what! Our tour guide said " oh Godiva in United States? its not chocolate! im sorry to you but, ya, its not chocolate to me.."

They add in lots of sugar and fat in order to suit the American, the percentage of cocoa powder is lower then 32%, so it shouldn't consider as chocolate anymore, but only "fancy chocolate"

Oh wow~! Godiva man! what a surprise! are they selling any cheaper in US since its not as authentic as the original one from Belgium? obviously not..

In Belgium, all the chocolate maker have to maintain and produce the chocolate which have to contain at least 32% of chocolate powder, and this is the only place that have this kind of restriction to chocolate.

here is a very good set of chocolate that i bought~

with white and milk chocolate, and 3 diff type of dark chocolate which contains 50%, 72% and 85% of cocoa powder

we've tried it in the store, cracked the chocolate and taste it! the higher contains of cocoa, the smoother it is, and ofcoz a bit more bitter.. but amazingly there is some "after taste" ! so cool!

the sales girl in Godiva is so funny, she is explaining to us how important is quality over quantity, and for belgium people like them is willing to spend more or go further for better quality and luxury, thats how Belgium chocolate become the best chocolate in the world
